Scorched Earth

Season one of The Event is coming to a close quickly. With only three more episodes left people are still wondering when will "the event" happen and what is "the event".  I think there is still time for one more craazzzy theory, but before stating the theory here's a definition.

Scorched Earth as defined by Wikipedia -  A scorched earth policy is a military strategy or operational method which involves destroying anything that might be useful to the enemy while advancing through or withdrawing from an area.

One recent example of this tactic was the 1991 retreat of Iraqi soliders out of Kuwait. As the Iraqi's were driven out of Kuwait by Coalition military forces they set over 700 oil wells a blaze.

A good example of a Scorched Earth policy in science fiction would be from The Matrix. The humans scorched the sky to black out the Sun in an attempt to cut the machines off from their solar power supply. Of course in the Matrix this plan back fired.

The Nuclear Football as defined by Wikipedia -  A black briefcase, the contents of which are to be used by the President of the United States of America to authorize a nuclear attack while away from fixed command centers, such as the White House Situation Room.

The Nuclear Football is to be used under dire circumstances i.e. alien invasion.

The last two episodes of The Event are entitled; The Beginning Of The End and Arrival. From the titles we can assume that things aren't going to go well for the indigenous population of Earth. Faced with a loosing situation I think President Martinez (who will survive another assassination attempt) will do something unthinkable. Rather then sit back and let the EBEs come to Earth and live in happiness as they kill us off...the President, out of options, will launch a massive nuclear attack.  Not necessarily to kill the EBEs, but to destroy all the resources that make Earth worthwhile taking.  This military strategy is called Scorched Earth.

Theory: President Martinez with the Nuclear Football launches America's nukes to scorch the Earth so that Sophia and her people can't survive.
