Where Did The Event Go

07 Dec

The Event has been cancelled by NBC. The below post was written during it's winter hiatus.

Well if you noticed The Sing Off was on your DVR and not The Event, don't panic. There was no new episode last night. The show has gone on an extended hiatus, but will return on February 28th March 7th. Until then there probably won't be any live chat or commentary, but I will be making blog post on a regular basis to keep you informed of the latest The Event news and theories.

We knew this break would come from the start, but not a three month one. This season of no The Event has left a few people on Twitter a little peeved at NBC. Here's my favorite tweet:

@julie_lockwood #theevent isn't returning until FEBRUARY 28TH?! holy unnecessary tv break, batman.

First let's briefly talk about the negative. A three month break in the middle of a high concept heavily serialized drama isn't the best thing to do for engaging viewers. I don't want to reference past television shows that have had ill fates after long breaks, because the past does not predict the future. However, when networks take long breaks they probably should consider advertising the fact that the show is only on hiatus and not cancelled and ensure fans that the show will be back. I try to do my part online by informing followers that the show is not cancelled and will be back, but I'm sure there are millions of The Event fans that haven't yet discovered this blog or social networking, so I can only do so much.

Now let's talk about the positive. I know it's hard getting something positive out of a lack of Monday night entertainment, but here it goes:

  1. Most network television shows take a winter break right now anyway. People are busy with the holidays and have no time to watch TV. If The Event were on in the month of December live viewer ratings would probably slump.
  2. Monday Night Football is a big ratings competitor. Once the show comes back at the end of February the football season will be over.
  3. Valentine's Day is on a Monday this year; ratings would have surely taken a dive. Before the hiatus I myself was looking for a substitute commentator for the live chat.
  4. The Event has aired in over 200 countries and territories, and none of them or on the same page. This break will allow all viewing areas to view the latest episode within the same week. There's a greater buzz when everyone can talk about the same episode.
  5. All episodes are available on Hulu again! This break will allow those who haven't started watching yet to start and or catch up and be ready in time for the late winter premiere.

All of these reasons and plus the fact that NBC is planning a re-launch of the series with more marketing leads me to believe that the show will return strong or at least steady. Oh, and when The Event comes back on, NBC will air two new back to back episodes. Episodes 111 and 112 back to back equals instant gratification or at least until the end of the second hours

So until the end of February March I'll do my best to keep The Event fans entertained. For updates and a friendly reminder of when The Event will be back, follow this blog on Twitter, Facebook, or subscribe to the RSS feed.

BRING BACK THE EVENT!!!!!

Once again the network executives decide to cancel a great show like The Event just when it was starting to get really interesting. CAN THEY FINALLY MAKE A GOOD DECISION AND BRING BACK THE EVENT???

The evnt

How can a good show like the event fail, and leave us with a joke of a show like terra nova?

The Event cancelled?

I heard that the show got cancelled on May 13/2011 is that true?

The Event cancelled?

Yes, unfortunately that's true. I'm not sure of the exact date anymore, but it won't be returning to NBC. There was hope for another network to pick it up or maybe even a short mini series to conclude things, but I haven't heard anything lately. Here are our recommended shows this season: http://the-event.tv/fall-season-tv-schedule

The Event - NO CANCELLATION

I started watching the Event and now I cannot keep away. I am almost dismayed when I imagine that the series will not continue. At first it was a bit disorienting as it was not interesting keeping up with the story but I guess the script was changed to reflect a better continuation. I am waiting with bated breathe for season 2.

the event return

My God if they don't return, then i'll never watch NBC again! what a bunch of crap, they real you in and cut the line before landing the fish....they are going to go hungry with this tactic.

Bring the Event Back

The Event was a great show on Monday night. How can NBC just leave us hanging not knowing what the Event is? The reason why I like the Event it was so realistic with what is going on in the world today, all you had to do was pay attention to details which they were showing for that week espisode.

My favorite character was an agent Lee. He brought so much charisma to his character, and it was nice to see a show that had a lot of different ethnic characters. I hope that NBC will consider to bring back the Event of hopefully another network will pick it up.

The Event

The Event is really cancelled? My dvr didn't record it last night, and NBC website doesn't say anything. They could've at least warned us. Every week, I was riveted to every moment of it. When that "STARK" came on to signal the end of an episode, I was always disappointed - I could watch it for hours. Now, we'll never know what happened????? Someone on another website said they transported the whole planet. I didn't get that from watching it, but it makes sense. Yet, even though it's a resolution in a way, there were still so many loose ends. Or is this a ploy to see who'd get upset and plead for it to return? If so - I'll plead to the powers-that-be to do that.

The Event

The network is playing the same game with The Event as another did with Friday Night Lights. It's too bad that mundane TV has become the ratings grabbers while interesting and thoughtfull fare is cancelled.....

Why NBC is fourth

The Event is a great show but once again NBC blew it. (Remember the Leno fiasco?)

Despite a brilliant ad campaign that intrigued people to watch the premier, the confusing mess of flashbacks turned a lot of potential viewers off right from the start. Those of us who gave the show a second chance were not disappointed. The acting is superb and the plot is great BUT --- why in the world did they take an extended hiatus???

Hello NBC -- in order to attract fans, they need to be able to find the show.

So sad to see the fate of this show ruined by clueless network execs.

The Event...too long a break?

As a big The Event fan in UK I was as dismayed as many at the long hiatus attached to this very intelligent and gripping US series. I agree with many other comments that you can lose a fair chunk of the audience if they take 3 months to get us hooked again. To show how interest has been lost by Channel 4 here in UK, they slotted the double opening at 10/11pm and not 9.00pm as the series had slotted during the first run. Even worse 4 have placed it regularly at 11.00pm for the rest of the run and even show repeats of other programmes before?? We do not operate breaks on series here on UK produced series like US and as a result I know confidence in a good rating is now shattered. I myself will stick with it to the end but like Fast Forward I fear this is headed for cancellation at the end of the present run! Big up to the creators though!

the event

hey im from perth, Australia.... will it be on foxtel aswell as normal t.v! And if its on foxtel could you please tell me the cannel its on?

Cheers thank you so much!!!

So glad The Event will be returning!

Just re-checked my series recordings and saw that The Event was removed! Panicked and set it again to record the series! Glad to have found this site and to realize I have not missed any episodes! My daughter would have been upset too! Keep it going! Promote it better guys!

the event

can you please tell me what channel its on, on foxtel please???

what the heck

So, is this going to be like flashforward????????????

hmmm

Nbc left us hanging with heroes and others so dont hold your breath on reciving a proper conclusion of this story line! If im not blown away by 11&12 im bailing out now before another epic heartbreak! Did you guys see the last episode of heroes? Really nbc!? Really?

Apparent Date Change

Well NBC's site still says The Event will return on Feb. 28th, but many sources are reporting that a review episode will be aired on that date, and the following Monday on March 7th is when we can expect to see episodes 11 and 12. Stay tuned for updates.

The Event hiatus has caused me to loose interest.

Okay, enough is enough. I understand the reasons behind a hiatus, but 3 months overdoes it. I was a diehard fan, I watched it on prime time and then again ondemand. But with this length of time, I have returned to using that segment of time for reading. The suspence is no longer calling me when a good novel does not interrupt the action because of a ratings game. Sorry, but they just LOST a fan.

NBC Confirms Return Date

NBC confirms the return date of The Event to be March 7, 2011.

The Event

So, glad I found this site...I really got sucked into THE EVENT via ON DEMAND and have been waiting for months to find out what happens. I can't believe they put it on such a long hiatus. I thought only cable did that!

The Event

I'm glad you found it too! Yeah, the break has sucked...but only a few more weeks.

The Event

I'm also glad it's returning; however, we were on the verge of not watching it anymore because the commercials took up more air time than the show...I found that hard to digest - with all the money they have. But, I just figured the writers or someone from the show said or did something the top execs didn't like - déjà vu The Smothers Bros. Don't watch NBC much but gave in for this show.....will try it again.

The event

Is The Event going to return in Feb in the UK?

The Event Returns...

The Event will probably return to the UK first week of March after the Feb. US return.

the event

hi im from sydney australia and i'm so glad that i found this site ive tried everything to find out what happened to the event and this is the first site to give me any information. sooo glad that its not cancelled. thankyou

hi diana

You're welcome!

The "break"

Sheesh ... had I known that there was to have been such a long break, I wouldn't have stressed my whole vaca! Gimme my Event back, OK?

Shades of "Flashforward"?

I started to get sucked into the "Flashforward" series ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlashForward ) and was catching up on Hulu when I learned it was cancelled!

It should be against the law to leave a huge unresolved story line - I hope this does not happen with "The Event"...

re: The Event - Hiatus

I never could understand why TV shows take such long breaks like this and risk losing a large percentage of their audience (in an already volatile TV market).

All of those holidays listed would seem to be a poor excuse. With the holidays often comes time off from work. And time off from work means people having more time to watch TV.

It seems like the only show on the air this season which doesn't go for this hiatus stuff is Hawaii 5-0. I would bet that their ratings will benefit because of it.

Is The Event a good enough show that fans would wait three months for their show resume? Time will tell. It's a gamble I wouldn't want to take if I were a TV executive.
